Palm's webOS PDK beta adds Pixi native development, PDK'd apps will hit the Catalog mid year
We just sat down with Palm here at GDC and fished out a few more details on the PDK beta front . Firstly, and most interestingly, Palm has confirmed that the PDK now works on all of its handsets (instead of just the Pre and Pre Plus), which means Pixi buyers can stop hating themselves pretty soon. Apparently the level of performance degradation should be comparable iPhone 3G vs. 3GS, which doe...
Samsung NaviBot SR8845 / SR8855 vacuum cleaner hands-on

That's the "glass is half full" attitude we like, Verizon -- always looking for a way to sign a few more of those lucrative data contracts, no matter the circumstances! Elgato rolls out smaller, Windows 7-supporting EyeTV Hybrid
Elgato's original EyeTV Hybrid USB tuner wasn't exactly oversized, but the company has nonetheless managed shrink things down a bit for the device's latest revision, and it's added some Windows 7 support for good measure. Most of the size reduction comes from ditching the analog connector found on the previous model (you'll still get an adapter), and you'll also now get a sturdier aluminum en...

Intel bringing dual-core Atom D510 processors to netbooks as the N500?
It was hard to be anything but disappointed when Intel's dual-core Atom D510 processor started hitting nettops and was found to be no better performing than the earlier D330. Sure, it was more frugal, but most users were hoping for a bit more oomph not a bit less consumption. Soon, netbook users will seemingly get a taste of the same bitter pill, with talk that a netbook version of the D510...

Inverted, ocean-bound "seascrapers": aqua-communes for the future?
You guys, I'm freaking out about how cool these things could be. A recent skyscraper concept competition yielded some really interesting designs, among them this utterly amazing concept, which they inexplicably call a "water-scraper" instead of the decidedly more euphonious "seascraper," as I have dubbed it. Carpuccino runs on coffee

What used to be a standard 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco is now a coffee-powered car, but mileage isn't that ideal (and a waste of good coffee, we might add) since it requires 56 espressos for a single mile. It will run on any brand as lo...

Why Your Computer Sucks
Today is not only the day after the Super Bowl, it's also National Clean Out Your Computer Day – the day was created by the Institute for Business Technology as a way to remind PC users about all of the clutter on their systems.
Regardless of the day's motive, it's pretty clear that computer users are just as much packrats as they are in their homes. According to the Consumer Electronics Asso...
Review: Star Trek Online boldly goes somewhere familiar
Star Trek Online (by Cryptic Studios, about $50, plus $15 monthly subscription, with a $300 lifetime subscription also available) is the latest entrant in the MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) gaming world, joining fantasy-themed games such as World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online. Instead of a Tolkien-esque world populated by Orcs and goblins, players in Star Trek Online head to spac...
Super Bowl Shuffle Reunion?
I'm not sure anyone really wanted to see this, but Boost Mobile has decided to hold a "Super Bowl Shuffle" reunion with some members of the 1985 Chicago Bears, which of course crushed the New England Patriots in the 1986 Super Bowl (which would make this the 24th anniversary, not 25th).
Anyway, the company is offering some video teasers for the event, which will occur at halftime during this y...
How to solve Rubik's Cube without peeling the stickers
Happy birthday to the Rubik's Cube, which was launched in 1980 (invented in 1974, but licensed by Ideal in 1980) and began a craze of goofy kids like yours truly (I was 11 or 12 at the time) trying to impress people with their cube-solving skills.
For most people, "solving" the cube meant mixing up the cube and then peeling the stickers off and re-attaching them to claim a victory. Not so for ...

CES: Fly a helicopter with your iPhone!
I've seen a bunch of remote-controlled helicopters and toys before, but this was the first one that combines two of my favorite technologies: Wi-Fi and the iPhone.
The "device" getting a lot of attention at CES this year was the AR Drone, from France-based Parrot. Users control the helicopter via an iPhone and Wi-Fi connection, and a camera lets you see what the copter sees.

CES: I touched a Nexus One! Eeeeek!
Part of the lure of CES is getting excited over devices that you've never seen before, or seeing something that's truly innovative.
Or, in the case of Google's Nexus One smart phone, something that is hyped to the level of Apple status, to the point where just being near one gets you giddy as a school girl.
Such was the case last night at the Pepcom Digital Experience event, where officials fro...

CES: Cisco pushes "experience" of video
There's probably a good reason why I don't go to many vendor keynotes where a CEO or other executive gets up on stage, talks vision for a few minutes, introduces other executives, and then does a demo showing off some new technologies. There's no give-and-take, chances for questions or otherwise any way to challenge the vision that was just given to you.
That said, I attended Cisco's press even...
CES: USB 3.0 is wicked fast
This morning, I got a chance to speak with Seagate about its new USB 3.0 gear - a starter kit that includes cable, an PCI Express adapter and new Black Armor hard drive. Not only can USB 3.0 provide a 3x performance boost over USB 2.0 (reality, not theoretical), the speeds are almost equal to that of an internal hard drive.
For users who find themselves frustrated at long data transfer times ac...
