Video: Samsung explains why their Super AMOLED is better than your normal AMOLED
Samsung's pretty proud of their Super AMOLED technology – and why shouldn't they be? With next to no fanfare, they managed to knock out the readability issues that plagued AMOLED handsets any time they were within view of the sun. And if vastly improved readability wasn't enough, they went and slimmed the whole thing down [...]
Video: Samsung explains why their Super AMOLED screen is better than your normal AMOLED screen
Samsung's pretty proud of their Super AMOLED technology - and why shouldn't they be? With next to no fanfare, they managed to knock out the readability issues that plagued AMOLED handsets any time they were within view of the sun. And if vastly improved readability wasn't enough, they went and slimmed the whole thing down into a package considerably tighter than the competition's not-so-sun fri...
Sprint Touch Pro 2 to finally get Windows Mobile 6.5 later this month?
Given that the HTC Touch Pro 2 saw upgrades to Windows Mobile 6.5 on just about every other carrier months ago, Sprint Touch Pro 2 owners might be feeling a wee bit rebuffed right now. On the brightside, chances are good that the upgrade is coming eventually, right?
Well, it looks like "eventually" might be sooner [...]
BlackBerry App World bumped up to version 1.1.0.33
If you've been messing with the App World on your favorite BlackBerry device lately only to be plagued by some nasty glitch, you might want to check out the brand-spankin'-new App World update that just went live -- it might have fixed it.
Palm launches PDK beta, brings C and C++ development to webOS
Good news, everyone! We've got another acronym for you to remember! Back at CES 2010, Palm announced that they'd be launching a "PDK" at some point in the future – and, well, it's here, and it's time to pay some attention to it.
You see, "PDK" stands for "Plug-in Development Kit" (as opposed to "SDK", or [...]
Never Ending Goldrush: Doodle Jump for iPhone Smashes Through 3 Million Sales
Doodle Jump for the iPhone is something like a developer's fairy tale: two brothers set out to make a game using only the talents they've got at hand, and end up striking gold. They keep pushing out minor updates, and the game just keeps selling .
Tomorrow morning, Lima Sky will be announcing that Doodle Jump has just surpassed 3 million sales -- a feat, they claim, is a first for any Indie d...
Nokia files patent for kinetically-charging mobile phone battery
Question: can you file a patent for something that's existed for a long time? I guess the question is of implementation. While self-winding watches and shake-to-charge flashlights already harvest kinetic energy to store and later discharge, I suppose they do it in a different way than this proposed system from Nokia. Not sure I trust [...]
Review: Case-mate Hug Wireless Charging Pad and Case for iPhone 3G/3GS
Short Version: A bit of a twist on traditional induction chargers, Case-mate's "Hug Wireless Charging Pad and Case" attempts to offset its $100 price tag by adhering to the Wireless Power Consortium's universal charging standard, which promises interoperability with other charging pads and devices that are developed using the same technology.
Oh no you didn't: woman stabs man after looking at his call log
Such are the perils of technology. A Las Cruces woman is being charged with battery after stabbing her ex-husband repeatedly after looking at his cell phone's call log. No word on exactly what calls she was upset about, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the ones he made to the local Pizza Hut. Word of [...]
Video: HTC Supersonic briefly caught on camera
We started drooling about the HTC Supersonic as soon as we heard the words "Android" and "WiMax" in the same sentence. Once "4.3 inch display" got thrown into the mix, our salivary glands just couldn't be stopped.
While HTC hasn't made even the smallest of official peeps about this thing yet, it looks like someone out there has gotten their hands all over it - and just as anyone with early acc...
Swype for Android rolls into a semi-public Beta
Swype for Android's finger-dragging input method goodness has been available to some extent through other means for a while now — some legit, some not quite as legit. Legitimate means or otherwise, Swype has still only been made available to pretty small group of people.
Well, things are about to open up — if only just [...]

Sausage iPhone stylus shipping to US
You may have seen the "Sausage Finger" iPhone photos making the rounds early last month. I could have sworn we posted it but I can't seem to find it. Anyhoo, it was a photo of two guys on a South Korean subway car using little sausages to manipulate their iPhones while wearing gloves. Everyone had a chuckle and then we all moved on—UNTIL NOW!
Stuck in the iPhone mindset, AT&T locks down apps on their first Android phone
Our full review of the Motorola Backflip should be up in a few days, but a few words of wisdom in the mean time: Don't buy it. Between its crazy form-factor and the hidden trackpad tucked on the back of the display, everything we took as merits at face value have devolved into novelties.
Worst of [...]
Xachi Pets fuse iPhones and Stuffed Animals into one Cute and Cuddly iToy
What do you get when you mix a Unicorn and a Nexus One? I've got no idea – but if you put an iPhone and Furby together, you get a Xachi pet. Announced last week at the American International Toy Fair, a Xachi (pronounced "ZAH-chee") Pet is an iPhone-controlled toy. It looks kind of like [...]

More BlackBerry slider photos for you, guv'nor
It looks a little bit better than it did before when it's in focus, and with a Bold for comparison. Click for the high resolution version, or head over to BlackBerry Leaks for the rest.
People are falling over themselves trying to decide whether this is going to be Bold-branded or Storm-branded. I see no reason [...]

Innovation: Practical innovation, Radical innovation and Incremental innovation at the Mobile World Congress
There has been a lot of coverage of mobile world congress. I have said before that the event was a success and also that we, as an industry are adding value when there is so much economic chaos around us . GSMA also validates this trend by their statistics and attendee numbers GSMA Releases Congress Visitor Stats
If there was an underlying theme for the event, then I think it was 'practic...

Dinosaurs Unleashed Oxford Street
My son and I spent Saturday at this show. Its cool and especially if you have kids you will enjoy it. The 'life size' element in the heart of central london is cool!
Some very nice innovations like 'Dinopaint' where you paint dinosaurs on the screen and it gets rendered on a real image on the floor and hunting for fossils.

Some good comments about last years event;
Alan Hadden: "A superbly organised conference - focused agenda, top speakers, international audience - with real experiences, facts and news shared - simply the best LTE event this year!"
Claudio Adriani: "A first class event, very well organized and attended. Informative and stimulating with the benefit of an e...
Open source is anti-capitalism says confused International Intellectual Property Alliance - reminds me of pharma companies suing Nelson Mandela
Another bizarre headline this week .. Open source is anti-capitalism says confused International Intellectual Property Alliance
It turns out that the International Intellectual Property Alliance, an umbrella group for organisations including the MPAA and RIAA, has requested with the US Trade Representative to consider countries like Indonesia, Brazil and India for its "Special 301 watc...

A sad day for privacy laws and the Net .. The Google - Italy verdict is ridiculous

This sets a bad precedent and also makes the position of other Web firms(and ...

Whitepaper: Mobile VoIP - Approaching the Tipping Point by Ajit Jaokar and Chetan Sharma
I wrote the white paper Mobile VoIP - Approaching the Tipping Point alongwith Chetan Sharma .

Over the course of the last decade, mobile devices have become the most ubiquitous consumer electronic devices ever invented. Even in the poorest of the nations, mobile phones have evolved from being a luxury to an indispensible necessity. The paradigm of communication itself h...
Solving the minimum disclosure problem: The significance of Claims based Identity system

Two star review of Avatar by Guardian journalist: But does anyone care for old media reviews any more?
Seeing Avataar this weekend yet again, I googled for a review and was amazed to find this two star review of Avatar by a guardian journo
The Titanic director's monstrously-hyped creation does look fantastic but, in trying to cover all the bases with militarist sci-fi, vacuous eco-waffle and an intra-species love story, it's too baggy

Two star review of Avataar by Guardian journalist: But does anyone care for old media reviews any more?
Seeing Avataar this weekend yet again, I googled for a review and was amazed to find this two star review by a guardian journo
Be that as it may, Avatar tries to have it both ways, to be preachy and a thrill-ride at the same time. I can't in all honesty say it pulls it off - it's baggy, longwinded and, for all the light-speed imagery, just not quick on its feet. Cameron used to be the ta...
Palm's webOS PDK beta adds Pixi native development, PDK'd apps will hit the Catalog mid year
We just sat down with Palm here at GDC and fished out a few more details on the PDK beta front . Firstly, and most interestingly, Palm has confirmed that the PDK now works on all of its handsets (instead of just the Pre and Pre Plus), which means Pixi buyers can stop hating themselves pretty soon. Apparently the level of performance degradation should be comparable iPhone 3G vs. 3GS, which doe...
Eternal optimist Verizon calls iPad launch 'an opportunity' to sell some data plans
That's the "glass is half full" attitude we like, Verizon -- always looking for a way to sign a few more of those lucrative data contracts, no matter the circumstances! Turns out Big Red is tipping off its staffers on how it can encourage customers to go with the WiFi-only version of the iPad and pair it up with a device like the MiFi rather than shelling out $130 more for integrated AT&T 3G ...
Samsung SHW-M120S to be first Android phone with Bluetooth 3.0?
Samsung's all about records: firsts , biggests , smallests , thinnests , you get the idea. Indeed, it was just a few weeks ago that the company managed to slip the very first Bluetooth 3.0 certified handset through -- but these guys never rest, and it looks like they're already prepping to follow up that feat by throwing Android into the mix. The Bluetooth SIG is showing certification for...
iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 4 drops in
Suspense! Drama! Surprises! Unrealistic expectations! It's always a veritable roller coaster of emotions whenever Apple gets around to cutting a new SDK build -- and without a doubt, iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 4 is no exception. We don't yet have a good read on what's new here, so if you're a member of Apple's $99 dev program and happen to get it downloaded and installed, let us know if you find any...
Customer greeted with malware on Vodafone-issued HTC Magic (good thing it's discontinued)
Crapware's bad enough, but having your life torn asunder simply by plugging in that shiny new (insert USB-connected device here) is an exciting new trend -- viruses find their way into the darnedest places, don't they? It seems an employee at anti-malware firm Panda Research who'd ordered a new Magic off Vodafone UK's site was greeted with no fewer than three nefarious executables upon plug...
Microsoft bringing XNA Game Studio 4.0 to GDC this week, does 3D gaming for Windows Phone
We've all had a feeling that Microsoft is holding back some pretty big surprises (or at least completely reasonable revelations) when it comes to Windows Phone 7 Series and gaming, and here at GDC this week it sounds like we're going to get a little glimpse into that. Microsoft is unveiling its new XNA Game Studio 4.0, which lets developers work on games for Windows Phone 7 Series, Xbox 360...
Motorola Devour review
While Motorola's vanilla-Android Droid has become the most recognizable Android device on the market -- thanks in part to a bombastic ad campaign -- Motorola's primary focus has been on its own custom Blur UI. At least, if quantity of devices are any indication. Hitting Verizon just as the Blur-powered Backflip heads to AT&T, the new Motorola Devour is an odd cross section of the "consume...
Cricket tacks on Samsung's Stunt
Looking for a rightful successor to your now-aging SCH-R211 ? Samsung and Cricket would like you to look no further than the SCH-R100 Stunt, a dead ringer for the candybar of the same name that launched on MetroPCS back in December of last year. It turns out this is a little bit more than your average ultra-basic phone, though: Cricket says this device is introducing Bluetooth to the lowest ...
Meizu MStore open for business, Mr. Jelly on sale now for 29 cents
We have some news on the app store that Meizu announced for the M8 a while back . The official name is apparently MStore, and it is indeed open for business with its first paid app, Mr. Jelly, going for about 29 cents (we believe it's a productivity tool for managing your, um, jelly). If that sounds familiar, it is -- the game is a port of an iPhone App Store gem. Regardless of its somewhat KI...
Palm unleashes webOS PDK beta on the public
If you've been looking to get in on some of that red hot game development action that Palm's been all about lately, check it out: among the announcements at this year's GDC , Palm has announced the release of its public beta PDK for webOS. This bad boy promises to let devs "use C and C++ alongside the web technologies that power the SDK and mix them seamlessly within a single app," just the ...
NFL Mobile comes to Verizon with livestreaming RedZone channel
We'd heard that the NFL would be bringing the RedZone channel to phones this season, and it looks like Verizon's scored the first big partnership: NFL Mobile will launch on Big Red next month with the draft, complete with live streaming video of the event, on-demand video analysis from NFL Network, a pick-by-pick draft tracker, and other content. Once the season starts, customers will get Red...
Ubuntu hits HTC's Touch Pro2, is any Windows Mobile handset safe? (video)
If there's one thing we're pretty sure Windows Phone 7 Series will be worse at than its Windows Mobile precursor it's in the running of various and sundry other operating systems. We've seen Android running on seemingly every WinMo handset ever created and more recently Unbuntu has been receiving the mobile treatment. Last month it was on an Xperia X1 , now an HTC Touch Pro2 is getti...
Case-Mate's Hug wireless iPhone charging solution shipping now for $100
Remember that wireless induction charger that we saw poking around at the CES iLounge Pavilion earlier this year? Seems that Case-Mate has finally given that little doohickey a name, a price and a ship date. The aptly-titled Hug (which consists of the Hug Case and Hug Pad) slips onto one's iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS and allows Apple's darling to get recharged by simply laying on the aforemention...
HTC Supersonic meets Mr. Blurrycam, leaves us wanting more (video)
Being drip-fed information on the HTC Supersonic is unlikely to be as pleasant an experience as actually having one, but it's all we can do to fill the time until this beast of a phone finally makes its official debut (probably on Sprint ). Today's appearance shows what looks to be a majorly insecure Mr. Blurrycam sporting gloves and gingerly handling a handset purporting to be HTC's lates...
AT&T's LG eXpo pico projects itself right out of stock, production problems to blame?
As Windows Mobile 6.5-based handsets go, LG's eXpo unquestionably stands near the top of the pile thanks to its WVGA display, 1GHz Snapdragon core, and optional pico projector hump for the rear -- but there's a problem: it's really, really hard to find. Nigh impossible, actually, especially now that AT&T has pulled it off its online store altogether (it had been showing out of stock for wee...
T-Mobile's CLIQ XT pamphlet out and about
Want to know how to sell Motorola's CLIQ XT for T-Mobile in 60 seconds? Look no further than this pamphlet that's circulating now that the carrier is (well, probably is) just days away from release, where we learn all about its 3.1-inch display, touch controls, Flash Lite support (avert your eyes, CLIQ users), and pinch-and-zoom browser navigation, all paired up with a 5 megapixel camer...
T-Mobile invites us to 'come experience the HTC HD2' on March 16; release on the 24th? (update: or 23rd!)
Like clockwork, we've just been dropped a line by T-Mobile USA asking us to join them for a very special media event to check out the HTC HD2 -- "a larger than life entertainment powerhouse" -- in fabulous New York City on the evening of March 16. That lines up nicely with the company's earlier assurances that we'd see a launch in March -- but what day in March, exactly? Well, we're hearing...
Another one bites the dust: Cisco steps out of the WiMAX game
It's still far, far too early to call WiMAX a dead technology, but with the second major infrastructure supplier moving away from it in as many months, that's a pretty damning sign, isn't it? After Alcatel Lucent's announcement that it would be scaling back WiMAX investment last month, Cisco has now pulled the plug on its own efforts, citing a desire to stay as "radio-agnostic" as possible ...
Sausage stylus for the iPhone now on sale in the US
So you thought awesome gear never made the transition from Korea to the USA, huh? Not so in the case of the infamous sausage stylus we spotted a month ago. That cold weather peripheral -- allowing its ingenious users to operate a capacitive touchscreen with gloves on -- has made the big leap over to the Americas and can be yours for the low (seriously low) price of $0.99. Naturally, it's a ...
Android NDK hits Release 3, brings OpenGL ES 2.0 access to devs
We know from a brief spat of iPhone 3GS controversy that OpenGL ES 2.0 brings a new level of immersive realism to 3D gaming on mobile devices, so Android developers (and users, for that matter) should be delighted to hear that a new release of the official Native Development Kit exposes its capabilities to anyone targeting Android 2.0 or higher. As a refresher, the so-called NDK is a bolt...
Emergency Cell Phone Charger
If you've ever been involved in building out a large scale network, you've undoubtedly heard about single points of failure. The BlackBerry network itself is a single point of failure as we saw last week: if it goes down, every single person that relies on BlackBerry email is hosed (pun intended: it is a Canadian device!). But for you personally, the biggest single point of failure is probably...

If you've got a young kid, you've probably got a video camera for capturing all the seemingly normal stuff that we can do as adults but that is just plain amazing when a one year old does it. If you've ever wanted to show a movie on your BlackBerry that you've ...
Big Brother, Google Maps and your BlackBerry
The guys at Skylab Mobilesystems have done it again: they keep creating these applications that I can't imagine living without. The latest is called Mobile Tracker and is described in their press release like this: By taking advantage of the already built-in GPS receiver of the BlackBerry 8800 series, MobileTracker is able to record tracklogs. Those tracklogs are saved on the BlackBerry's inter...

The site and software is free of charge.

The Croco Red case looks pretty sweet from where I'm sitting, but you can see them all here .
BerryDialer: Use multiple calling cards on your BlackBerry
With the cost of international phone calls through Skype and other VOIP providers so low, I'm not sure why someone would ever choose to use a calling card, but I guess if you're on the go and don't have a laptop, then a calling card makes sense. If you're one of those people, you absolutely must check out the BerryDialer program, available from mobilesoftmarket.com , which gives you the abi...
